• When arranging music, Spencer decides what instruments to use, the type of rhythmical and tonal variations, the tempo and the overall style of the song being recorded.
   

• With  an in depth instrument knowledge including possibilities and limitations, it is Spencer's job to decide on interpretations of embellishments, articulation and dynamics. 
   

• Spencer also specifies which instrument should play what and when. This also includes considerations of background voices, accompaniment, and tone color.
